Average distance as a predictor of synchronisability in networks of coupled oscillators

چکیده
The importance of networks of coupled oscillators is widely recognized. Such networks occur in biological systems like the heart, in chemical systems, in computational problems, and in engineering systems. Systems of coupled oscillators can also be used as an abstract model for synchronisation in organisations. Here we show that synchronisability in a specific coupledoscillator model, the Kuramoto model, is best predicted using the average distance (or characteristic path length) between nodes in the network. We do this by simulating the Kuramoto dynamics on a collection of networks of varying type, including Random, Small-World, and ScaleFree networks. Furthermore, we show that, for several real-world networks, a simple estimate based on the average distance can predict the coupling required for networks to synchronise within a threshold time. .

A Phase Noise Reduction Technique in LC Cross-coupled Oscillators with Adjusting Transistors Operating Regions
In this paper, an intuitive analysis of a phase noise reduction technique is done, and then a modified structure is proposed to achieve higher phase noise reduction than the original one. This method reduces the impact of noise sources on the phase noise by decreasing closed-loop gain in zero-crossings points and moving this high closed-loop gain to the non-zero-crossings points. This reduction...
متن کاملEnhancing complex-network synchronization
– Heterogeneity in the degree (connectivity) distribution has been shown to suppress synchronization in networks of symmetrically coupled oscillators with uniform coupling strength (unweighted coupling). Here we uncover a condition for enhanced synchronization in weighted networks with asymmetric coupling. We show that, in the optimum regime, synchronizability is solely determined by the averag...
متن کاملWinding Numbers and Average Frequencies in Phase Oscillator Networks
We study networks of coupled phase oscillators and show that network architecture can force relations between average frequencies of the oscillators. The main tool of our analysis is the coupled cell theory developed by Stewart, Golubitsky, Pivato, and Török, which provides precise relations between network architecture and the corresponding class of ODEs in RM and gives conditions for the flow...
متن کاملA new attitude coupled with the basic fuzzy thinking to distance between two fuzzy numbers
Fuzzy measures are suitable in analyzing human subjective evaluation processes. Several different strategies have been proposed for distance of fuzzy numbers. The distances introduced for fuzzy numbers can be categorized in two groups:\1. The crisp distances which explain crisp values for the distance between two fuzzy numbers.\2. The fuzzy distance which introduce a fuzzy distance for normal f...
متن کاملDisturbing synchronization: Propagation of perturbations in networks of coupled oscillators
We study the response of an ensemble of synchronized phase oscillators to an external harmonic perturbation applied to one of the oscillators. Our main goal is to relate the propagation of the perturbation signal to the structure of the interaction network underlying the ensemble. The overall response of the system is resonant, exhibiting a maximum when the perturbation frequency coincides with...
